Selling Our Children for Entertainment at What Cost?

A few years back in a meeting with a musician at a NYC restaurant a city bus went past that had one of his daughters pictured in an advertisement for a television show.  Till this day I remember how the conversation changed.

“When my daughter got into the entertainment industry I asked her to promise me one thing.  Not to ever do anything thing that she would not be comfortable sitting on the couch in our living room watching together.”

As long as there have been children there has been the exploitation/sexploitation of them throughout the course of human history in all cultures and societies.

In the past we have made posts in support of the war against sex slavery and human trafficking etc. however it was a recent article by Brent Bozell of The Media Research Center: Exploiting the Teen Temptress that prompted us to look within our own culture and society.

“It’s either insane — or the act of giving the envelope-pushers exactly what they want. She also keeps celebrity gossips buzzing by joking she had sex with a priest, that “her best friend is her vibrator”, that she set her neutered dog’s testicles on fire as a protest against men and that she started a feud with Miley Cyrus and her repressive “bubblegum (expletive),” saying she never wanted to be “Miley f-ing Cyrus.” Momsen blames her parents for ruining her life, that she never had a childhood and started working as a model and actress at age 2.

Momsen may be extreme, but the trend is well established — the marketing of teenage temptresses for much older men. Oh, let’s stop the niceties. It’s not “teenage” anything. These are young girls. Children. And it’s the glorification of statutory rape.” Brent Bozell of The Media Research Center

Today for all of our ‘advances’ that we point to in culture and society, deceiving ourselves that we have entered a new age of enlightenment to the point where we deny the problem in our own culture/society, are we not ever so quick to point the finger of righteous condemnation at ‘those less advanced and sophisticated poor bastards in the third world’?  We ‘The Enlightened Ones’ refer to them as the dominions of untold human misery: human trafficking and sex slavery while it exists right here in our own country.

In the United States we sanitize things and put them through filters to remove any foul odor or flavor to make them palatable.  This is the case with the entertainment industry and its exploitation/sexploitation of children.

Before we all rush to damn the entertainment industry are they not feeding the lusts, meeting the demands of the public or have we literally become sheep being led to the slaughter?

Where are the parents?

All three are guilty no one is innocent, the entertainment industry, the public and the parents are without exception guilty of exploiting/sexploiting our children, sacrificing them on the altar of entertainment.

Do you not believe that the release of teen Miley Cyrus in her underwear or Vanessa Hudgens nude (No Hotlinks to their sites for it would make us just as guilty and hypocrites) cellphone pictures and those of other teen idols were not encouraged by the entertainment industry, management, parents?  Was there not great coverage in the media and the sites that carried the pictures or at least placed the names in their meta tags became the most searched and viewed pages at the time?

Please take the time to review your children’s media habits and do not fall into the trap that ‘everyone else’s parents let them watch it or listen to it’ because YOUR children are not EVERYONE else’s children.

Protect our children; let them have a childhood…
